57CY

Located on the intersection of 57th st. and Prairie Ave in the Washington Park neighborhood, this proposal for a super-block residential and mixed-use complex is generated by site specific factors. It looks to increase green exterior public space access to each unit by repurposing the roof topography into an elevated park space for the residents and acts as an alternate form of entry to each level.

A sunken courtyard provides a communal space, giving each unit ample light, while also allowing each residence to be a floor-through unit so fresh air can circulate. Each unit is accessed through an exterior walkway lining the courtyard providing visual connectivity between residents and fostering a sense of community. The roof surface touches down at grade on the north end to provide access to residents coming from the Garfield green line stop, while going up to seven stories high on the south end, creating views of the Chicago Skyline and Lake Michigan to the North and East.
